Overview
Truly an “Edge” over others
The 2007 Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover sports utility vehicle (SUV). A crossover is an SUV built on a car or minivan chassis instead of a truck-based platform.

The Edge debuted at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in January, while its production began in the fall of 2006 as a 2007 model.

The 2007 Edge is available in a five-door and five-seater configuration. It is offered in Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD) as well as All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) versions and three trim levels: SE, SEL, and SEL Plus.

Based on the Ford CD3 platform, the Edge is expected to give a tough competition to other SUVs in the mid-size crossover segment, such as the Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Nissan Murano. It is available with a bumper-to-bumper warranty of three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty of five years or 60,000 miles.

Engine and Performance
Robust engine offers generous power
The Edge trims derive power from a 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine that churns out 265 hp at 6,250 rpm and 250 lb-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm.

The engine is mated to a close-ratio 6-speed automatic transmission, which delivers smooth and responsive performance. Fuel is delivered to the engine by means of a multiple-port Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection. All trims come standard with an Electronic Engine Control.

Driving Impressions
You’d love to be in the driver’s seat
The 2007 Edge is available in a standard FWD version, though the option of an AWD is also available. AWD offers enhanced traction in difficult driving conditions and constantly monitors feedback from the driver and vehicle, and automatically transfers the majority of torque to the wheels that need extra traction.

The Edge is driven by a power steering wheel, which offers direct, quick responses. It rides on McPherson struts suspension along with an L-shaped lower control arm with an isolated sub-frame, a stabilizer bar, and hydro-bushings. The suspension system also includes an independent suspension system with trailing blade, integrated knuckle and lateral links, an isolated sub-frame, and a stabilizer bar. The suspension absorbs all kinds of asymmetry in the roads and offers a smooth ride.

A four-wheel disc anti-lock brake system offers sharp stopping power to the Edge. It also features a standard AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control (RSC), which improves vehicle-control on dicey surfaces such as ice and snow, sand, gravel, and rain-soaked roads. The RSC system makes use of a roll rate sensor to determine roll motion at least 100 times in a second. It detects unstable situations and immediately reacts to help keep the tires firmly grounded.

A Reverse Sensing System that alerts drivers to nearby objects while in reverse gear is optional on the SEL as well as SEL Plus.

These features render the Edge capable of offering a smooth ride, excellent performance, and enhanced drivability.

The Edge comes packed with a bevy of safety features. It is built on a safety-designed body structure that includes front crush rails, side-impact intrusion beams, unibody construction with cross-member ladder frame, bumper-to-bumper flow-through side rails, and a reinforced greenhouse.

All trims of the 2007 Ford Edge come standard with a Personal Safety System, which includes seat belt pre-tensioners, load-limiting retractors, dual-stage front airbags, driver seat position sensor, and a crash severity sensor.
