Driving Impressions
Feel the adrenaline rush
The Expedition non-EL models come standard with a 2WD system, while the EL models feature a 4WD system, which is optional on non-EL models. The 4WD system delivers power to the front wheels during normal driving on dry road surfaces, but if rain, snow, or mud cause front-wheel slippage, power is automatically delivered to the rear wheels as well. It provides balanced driving power across all four wheels, helping to maintain the vehicle’s agility when it is most needed.

The Expedition gets power from a 5.4L V-8 engine with 3-valve technology, which delivers 300 hp and pushes strong with 365 lb-ft. of torque. The engine delivers impressive acceleration for all kinds of driving conditions. All models are coupled with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission, which provides a smooth efficient ride. The Expedition is navigated by a standard variable assist power rack-and-pinion steering, which offers nimble and easy handling.

It rides on an independent front suspension with double-wishbone, a short-and-long arms (SLA) design with coil-over-shock and a stabilizer bar, and an independent rear suspension with a multi-link design with coil-over shocks and a stabilizer bar. The suspension system also consists of front and rear gas-charged shocks and front and rear stabilizer bars. This suspension system is tuned to soak up the impact of uneven roads and deliver a smooth ride. The 4WD XLT models are also available with the option of an Off-Road Package.

The Expedition comes equipped with power, 4-wheel disc brakes and an anti-lock braking system (ABS). These brakes deliver forceful stopping power to all the four wheels and the ABS prevents locking up of wheels during emergency maneuvers and hard braking.

All models come standard with AdvanceTrac with roll stability control (RSC). AdvanceTrac improves the Expedition’s control in all driving conditions with the help of some sensors and various vehicle components, while the RSC system employs a roll rate sensor to detect unstable situations, allowing the Expedition to react instantaneously and help keep the tires firmly planted.

The Expedition is available with an optional Heavy-Duty Trailer Towing Package, which includes a Class IV trailer hitch receiver, wiring harness with 4-pin and 7-pin connectors, a heavy-duty auxiliary transmission oil cooler, a heavy-duty radiator, and a electronic braking wiring kit.

The Expedition comes with a ground clearance of 8.7 inches, which empowers it to take on uneven, rugged terrains with élan.
