Overview
A family car in four body-styles
The Ford Focus is a small family car manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. In the United States, it was launched in 1999 as a 2000 model.

The 2007 Ford Focus is available in four body-styles: 3-door Hatchback, 4-door Sedan, 4-door Sedan ST, and 5-door Hatchback. The 3-door Hatchback, 4-door Sedan, and 5-door Hatchback are each available in S, SE, and SES trims.

All the models are offered in a 5-seater configuration and a front-wheel drive (FWD) version.

The Focus is covered by a powertrain warranty of five years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. It competes with the likes of the Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Mazda 5, Chevrolet Cobalt, Nissan Sentra, Nissan Versa, and Pontiac G5.

Engine and Performance
Three powerful engines to choose from
The 3-door Hatchback, 4-door Sedan, and 5-door Hatchback are powered by a standard 2.0-liter Inline-four cylinder (I-4) engine, which produces 136 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 136 lb-ft. of torque @ 4,250 rpm. However, these models are also available with the option of a 2.0-liter Duratec I-4 engine that delivers 130 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 129 lb-ft. @ 4,000 rpm.

The 4-door Sedan ST derives power from a standard 2.3-liter Duratec I-4 engine, which churns out 151 hp @ 5,750 rpm and 154 lb-ft. @ 4,250 rpm.

All engines get fuel through a sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection and are linked to a standard 5-speed manual transmission. However, all models, excluding the 4-door Sedan ST, can also be teamed with an optional 4-speed automatic transmission.

Driving Impressions
Sails smoothly on the road
The 2007 Ford Focus is offered in a FWD layout, which puts the engine weight directly over the driven wheels, thereby improving traction on slippery or snow-packed roads.

The 2.0L I-4, 2.0L Duratec I-4, and 2.3L Duratec I-4 engines knock out 136 hp, 130 hp, and 151 hp respectively. All engines are equally competitive and generate ample torque and acceleration for city and highway driving. The 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission shift seamlessly. The Focus is steered by a power rack-and-pinion steering, which is nimble and reacts promptly to the driver’s inputs.

The Focus rides on an independent front suspension that includes McPherson struts and a control blade independent rear suspension. It also comes equipped with a standard front stabilizer bar and gas-pressurized rear shocks. All models also feature an enhanced European suspension with a rear stabilizer bar. A performance tuned suspension with a rear stabilizer bar is standard only on the 4-door Sedan ST trim.

All models, excluding the 4-door Sedan ST, come equipped with standard power front disc and rear drum brakes and are also available with optional power front disc and rear drum brakes with an anti-lock braking system (ABS). These models can also be equipped with the optional power 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS. The braking system empowers the Focus to come to an instant halt without screeching, while the ABS prevents the wheels from locking during hard braking and emergency maneuvers.

All models are also available with the option of traction control, which provides enhanced stability to the vehicle by improving traction.

Safety
Safety foremost on the Focus’s design plan
The 2007 Ford Focus earned four stars out of the maximum five in a driver's crash test from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It features a “Safety Cell” unitized body construction.

It comes standard with dual-stage airbags for the driver and front passenger, safety belt pre-tensioners and height adjustable D-rings for the driver and front passenger, an occupant classification system on the front row passenger seat, and a LATCH (lower anchors and tethers for children) system. Side impact airbags are optional on all trims, except the 4-door Sedan ST trim on which it is standard. All models, excluding the 3-door Hatchback, come standard with childproof rear side door locks.

All models are available with the option of a Safety Package, which includes ABS and side impact air bags.

The Focus also takes care of its own security. It comes standard with SecuriLock, a passive anti-theft system, a remote keyless entry with two key fobs, and a perimeter alarm system.
