Overview
Contemporary styling with a retro flair
The Ford Mustang is a car automobile manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. The first-ever Mustang was introduced at the New York World's Fair on April 17, 1964. Since then, the Mustang has been through five generations; the fifth generation spanning from 2005 till date.

Based on the Ford D2C platform, the 2007 Mustang was originally introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. It is available as a 2-door convertible and a 2-door coupe. The 2007 Mustang is offered in a choice of three models: Mustang V-6, Mustang GT, and Shelby GT500. The V-6 and GT are available in two trim levels each: V-6 Deluxe, V-6 Premium and GT Deluxe, GT Premium. All trims are available in 4-seater and rear-wheel drive (RWD) versions.

The 2007 Mustang is covered by a bumper to bumper warranty of three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty of five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. It competes with the likes of Mazda MX-5, Mini Cooper, Saturn Sky, and Nissan 350Z.

Engine and Performance
Throaty and powerful V-8
The 2007 Mustang is available with a choice of three engines. The Mustang V-6 derives power from a 4.0-liter V-6 engine that produces 210 hp @ 5250 rpm and 240 lb-ft. of torque @ 3500 rpm. This engine is linked to a standard T5 5-speed manual transmission, though it can also be coupled with an optional 5-speed automatic transmission.

The Mustang GT derives power from a 4.6-liter V-8 engine, which delivers 300 hp @ 5750 rpm and 320 lb-ft. @ 4500 rpm. The 4.6L V-8 is teamed to a standard TR3650 5-speed manual transmission. However, it can also be mated to an optional 5-speed automatic transmission.

The Shelby GT500 gets life from a 5.4-liter V-8 engine, which knocks out 500 hp @ 6000 rpm and 480 lb-ft. @ 4500 rpm. This robust engine is linked to a standard Tremec 6-speed manual transmission.

Fuel is delivered to all engines through a sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection.

Walk-around
American sporty car with classic design cues
The fifth generation Mustang is inspired from Mustangs of the 1960s, due to which it looks retro-futuristic. Unique retro coupe styling of the 2007 Mustang is completely in harmony with its muscle car status. The V-6 models measure 187.6 inches in length, whereas the GT models are 188.0 inches long. They all ride on a wheelbase of 107.01 inches.

The 2007 Ford Mustang looks aggressive with its classic design cues that will remind you of the Mustangs of the 1960s. Its front fascia looks distinct with a forward-leaning egg-crate grille, complex reflector halogen headlamps with integral parking/turn signal lamps, a long hood, and a short rear deck. It also features the galloping horse badge in the centre of the grille, C-scoops at the sides, and three-element tail-lamps. Fog lamps are standard on the GT and GT500, and optional on V-6 Premium.

The V-6 trims have swept-back lower front fascia, whereas the GT trims feature an upright lower front fascia with air dam and grille-mounted fog lamps. It also features a color-keyed rear fascia and deck-lid spoiler. The deck-lid spoiler is standard on GT trims and optional on V-6 trims. The V-6 trims have a single stainless steel exhaust, while the GT and GT500 come with dual stainless steel exhausts.

The V-6 trims wear standard 16-inch painted aluminum wheels with a bright machined face and they roll on P215/65R16 all-season tires. The GT trims feature standard 17-inch premium painted cast aluminum wheels and ride on 235/55ZR17 performance all-season tires. The GT500 comes with unique 18-inch bright machined aluminum wheels and sails on P255/45ZR18 front and P285/40ZR18 performance rear tires.

The 2007 Ford Mustang V-6 is available with the optional Exterior Sport Appearance Package, while the GT is offered with the GT Appearance Package. The Coupe models are also available with the option of Pony Package, which includes a rear spoiler, lower door tape stripes available in black, white or pearl gold interior upgrades, and a unique grille.

Driving Impressions
Good driving dynamics offer a smooth ride
The 2007 Ford Mustang comes standard with a RWD system, which improves traction during heavy acceleration by placing the vehicle’s weight on the rear i.e. driven wheels.

The 4.0L V-6, 4.6L V-8, and 5.4L V-8 engines deliver 210 hp, 300 hp, and 500 hp respectively. All engines are competitive enough, though the 5.4L V-8 tops the performance levels. It dishes out excellent torque and acceleration at all speeds. The 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, and 5-speed AT shift seamlessly and smoothly on all kinds of road conditions, thereby delivering a soft ride. It is steered by a power rack-and-pinion steering that offers precise and prompt responses to the driver’s inputs.

The Mustang rides on a front suspension, which includes McPherson Struts with reverse "L" lower control arms and a stabilizer bar. The rear suspension of V-6 and GT models includes constant-rate coil springs and a 3-link design with panhard rod. In addition to these components, the GT’s rear suspension also includes a stabilizer bar, while the GT500’s rear suspension consists of a 3-link solid axle with panhard rod, coil springs, and a 24-mm stabilizer bar.

The front suspension of the Mustang redefines precision handling and responsiveness without sacrificing ride quality, and the rear suspension delivers off-the-line performance and handling. All models feature outboard-mounted, hydraulic gas-pressurized shock absorbers.

The V-6 and GT come equipped with power 4-wheel disc brakes. The GT comes standard with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with traction control, which is optional on the V-6 trims. ABS prevents locking up of wheels during emergency maneuvers and hard braking. The GT500 comes standard with power 4-wheel disc brakes, Brembo front rotors and calipers, and an ABS with traction control.

Safety
Enhanced safety features
The Mustang has earned a five-star rating, the highest possible, for front-impact protection and a four-star rating for side-impact protection in the crash tests conducted by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Mustang is outfitted with state-of-the-art safety features.

It features standard side door intrusion beams, 3-point lap shoulder safety belts, a LATCH (lower anchors and tether for children) system, and a Ford personal safety system.

The GT500, in addition, comes standard with front seat side-mounted airbags, which are available as an option on other trims. The GT and GT500 also offer the benefit of an ABS with traction control, which is optional on V-6 trims.

The Mustang also comes standard with a remote illuminated keyless entry system, SecuriLock, and a passive anti-theft system (PATS). The GT500 comes standard with an active anti-theft system, which includes perimeter inclination and intrusion alarms, and is optional on other models.
